Hello Swanton citizens.
I am starting my biweekly articles after a hiatus. Thank you to all who participated and attended the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies at Memorial Park. I am grateful for such an improved and beautiful site where we can hold these celebrations.
I hope more groups will use the Doughboy site for ceremonies, but also for teaching our future generations the story of the American Doughboy and its relevance to our country and American ideals. I find the history of this sacred monument fascinating, and always take the opportunity when presented to tell people about it. I hope you will as well.
Planning is almost complete for our next Swanton event, the July 4th fireworks! Please be aware that the fireworks are planned for Friday, July 3, and the rain date is Sunday, July 5.
The viewing area at the High School will open at 6 p.m., with all the same food vendors as in past years. There will also be a DJ playing great American tunes. Happy the Clown will also be entertaining the kiddos with face painting. Tell your friends and family to put it on their calendars now! We expect huge crowds as usual, so come get your spot and bring your own games to play as you await the start, which will be at sundown.
This event is made possible through a donation from Rick Lederman which matches the donations received from local residents, businesses, and the Village of Swanton. Please throw in your loose change when you see a donation jar at one of the numerous businesses that collect for the village. There will also be folks collecting donations on site on July 3.
Special thanks to Fire Chief Howard Myers, Asst. Fire Chief Gary Roytek, and the rest of the SFD crew. Their dedication keeps us safe and provides the best fireworks show in Northwest Ohio!
