Vikes look to continue winning tradition

The Evergreen volleyball team will look to keep their winning tradition under new coach Nichole Thanasiu.

The Vikings are returning six letter winners and also six newcomers for the upcoming season.

“Energetic and determined to be a contender,” said coach Thanasiu on her team’s outlook for the season.

Returning for Evergreen are Kori Kreuz (honorable mention All-Northwest Ohio Athletic League), Cecilia Silvestri, Kelsie Komisarek, McKenna Babcock, Myra Kuszmaul and Zoe VanOstrand. Their newcomers are Claire Conrad, Savannah VanOstrand, Mikayla Heintschel, Nicole Brand, Naomi Brand and Kennedi Keifer.

“Grit and determination to push to succeed our team goals,” said Thanasiu on the strengths of her team.

The Vikings will have to replace three all-league performers. Hannah Herr was first team All-NWOAL and honorable mention in District 7 last season, Jamie VanLoocke was honorable mention All-NWOAL and in District 7, and Bailie Sutter honorable mention All-NWOAL.

Also departing are Lexie Truckor and Courtney Krieger.

The Vikings will look to improve upon their 13-9 record from 2017. They fell to Tinora in a Division III sectional final.

Evergreen welcomes Maumee Tuesday and Cardinal Stritch on Thursday.
