Evergreen golf has their two best golfers returning as seniors this year, looking to lead them to a promising season.
“Almost every player who will see varsity time this year has varsity match experience,” said fifth-year coach Doug DeSloover of his team’s strengths heading into the season. “Led by Travis Mersing who will contend for player of the year honors in the NWOAL. Zach Lumbrezer has been a letter winner every year.
“(We) should be competitive in every match we play and finish near the top of our sectional.”
Mersing returns after earning second team All-Northwest Ohio Athletic League honors in 2017, while Lumbrezer was honorable mention all-league.
They are replacing two letter winners, losing Noah Kreuz and Kaleb Lumbrezer to graduation.
“Will need to find consistency in scoring behind Travis and Zach,” said DeSloover of potential weaknesses.
The NWOAL should be competitive this season, and the Vikings expect to battle for a top four finish.
“Should compete in every league match, and aiming to finish in the top half of a stacked league,” said the Viking coach.
The season has already begun for the Vikings, as they will travel to Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green to take on Otsego Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
