Football ‘N’ America, a co-ed youth flag football league started by New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees, is coming to northwest Ohio this fall.
Helping bring this league to the area was Swanton native Ed Price, now a resident of Monclova.
“My wife (who is also from Swanton) and I have 3 boys all active in youth sports. Our community forces tackle at third grade and we were not comfortable with that,” said Price. “My wife found that Drew (Brees) is a big advocate for flag football and actually never played tackle until he was a freshman in high school. I reached out to Drew and his team and told our story. They responded within hours and have been outstanding to work with. Drew has been personally involved and is very excited to offer our community this opportunity.”
The league is for grades K-8. Games will be every Sunday from Sept. 9 to Oct. 28 at Bear Creek Fields in Holland.
The cost is $150 per player. This includes a team uniform, flag belt and set of flags, trophies for division winners and finalists, participation trophy (Grades K-2 only), minimum of 8 games and maximum of 10 games plus playoffs, one practice per week, and trained game officials.
A mouthpiece is required for games and practices. Cleats (no metal) are encouraged, but tennis shoes are also acceptable.
