Area soccer teams got some early practice in at the annual Bowling Green/Otsego Invitational Friday through Sunday.
On the boys side, Swanton went 0-2-1 in the group stage, but responded with a 2-1 record in the second round. In the group stage, the Bulldogs tied 1-1 with Bowsher, then fell 5-2 to Indians FC and 1-0 versus Eastwood.
The teams were then divided into four divisions, with Swanton competing in Division 3. They dropped their first game of the second round to eventual runner-up Fremont Ross, 1-0. However, the Dogs bounced back with a 1-0 win over Defiance and 3-2 win versus Cardinal Stritch.
The Swanton girls lost just one game the entire tournament. They went 3-0 in the group stage with wins over Woodmore (2-1), Defiance (3-2), and Otsego (5-0).
Then, competing in the Division 2 bracket, the Dogs went 2-1. They fell in their first game, 3-2, to eventual runner-up the BG Red team, but responded with a 3-1 win over Delta and 4-0 shutout of Maumee.
After going 1-2 in the group stage, Evergreen’s girls ran through the Division 3 bracket. The Vikings blanked Ottawa-Glandorf II 2-0, bested Miller City 4-1, and ended with a 2-1 victory against Firelands in the Division 3 championship.
In the Boys JV, Evergreen finished 3-1-1 while Swanton was 0-5. For the Vikings, they earned wins over Midview II (3-0), Swanton II (4-0), and Liberty Center II (2-1). Their loss was a 2-1 blemish against Bryan II, plus they tied Springfield II 2-2.
