GIBSONBURG – The Swanton girls finished as runners-up at the Gibsonburg Invitational on Friday. Lake won the title with 106.5 points, while Swanton had 95 and Rossford was third with 88.
The Bulldog boys were seventh overall with 55 points. Rossford won the title with 119.
The Swanton girls fared well in the field events. Sidney Taylor led the way with a win in the discus with a throw of 121-08 and a second place finish in the shot put.
Julia Smith bested local rival and defending state champion Emma Daugherty of Maumee Valley Country Day School in the high jump. Smith cleared 5-5 and Daugherty 5-4.
Hannah Grabke was runner-up in the pole vault.
Also, the 400 meter relay team of Ally Hendricks, Haley Nelson, Brooke Oberle and Bridget Harlett was second.
For the Swanton boys, the 3200 meter relay team took first with a time of 8:45.34. The team consisted of Brett Bettinger, Dylan Gilsdorf, Donovan Avalos, Anthony Howard.
Issac Thomas won the discus for the Swanton boys with a throw of 114-02.
Anthony Howard added a second place finish in the 1600 meter run and third place finish in the 800.
Swanton hosts Archbold in a league dual today beginning at 4:30 p.m.
