Swanton softball has three All-Northwest Ohio Athletic League players returning to help them improve upon a 2017 campaign in which they finished 9-15.
“We return a lot of experience,” said head coach Joe Nye. “Freshmen will contribute. Great attitude. New practice facility at the Fisher Gym has been a huge asset.”
Returning for the Bulldogs are honorable mention all-league performers Haley Nelson, Kylie Ulch and Olivia Bergman. They also get back Olivia Williams, Jessica Dohm, Alexis Bergman and Amber Torres.
“Twin pitchers (Olivia and Alexis Bergman) are a year older and have worked extremely hard in the off-season,” explained Nye. “Kylie Ulch and Olivia Williams will look to lead the offense.”
Their main departure from last year’s squad was Deanna Herr who was second team All-NWOAL.
Looking to add depth to the roster are newcomers Amy Lawson, Kailey Brownfield, Bailey Arnold, Faith Crow and Rachel Waszak.
In terms of the NWOAL race, Nye’s top four are Archbold, Bryan, Evergreen and Wauseon.
Swanton opens the season by hosting Woodward in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
