Swanton surrendered two goals within the first six minutes and could not recover, allowing a total of seven around many more scoring chances for Whitmer in a 7-0 defeat in non-league boys soccer Thursday at Krupitzer Field.
The Panthers made it 1-0 2:51 in when Austin Marchlewski got around Swanton goalkeeper Ethan Branum and hammered one into the back of the net. Following a Whitmer corner kick, Sebastin Schwalbe controlled possession of the ball on the right side of the net and scored to make it 2-0 at the 34:57 mark of the first half.
Whitmer’s Michael Miller was awarded a penalty kick nearly two minutes later but Branum guessed right, making the save to keep it a two-goal game.
Wyatt Lake of Swanton looked to slam one back in the net after an initial try by the Bulldogs later in the half, however, the Panther defense was there to knock it away.
Whitmer added to its lead with a goal on a direct free kick with 11:42 remaining to equal the halftime score of 3-0.
The Panthers made it 4-0 4:16 into the second half as Schwalbe got behind the Bulldog defense and scored.
After another Panther goal, Swanton had some chances to get on the board. With 22:05 left to play, Dylan Langwell took advantage of a defensive mishap by the Panthers and put one on target, however, the attempt missed to the right. Cody Mohr of Swanton then fired one at the net that was saved by Whitmer’s keeper at the 13:40 mark.
The Panthers added a pair of goals in the final 1:25, the second by Justin Mendoza with 54 seconds left, to complete scoring.
Swanton (1-9-1) hosts Wauseon Thursday at 5 p.m.
