Continuing a trend of hiring first-time people for the job, Fayette recently went young and hired Dylan Henricks as its new Athletic Director.

“I saw the opening and I was real excited,” said Henricks. “It’s close to home, I grew up right there. It’s like a home away from home, really.

“I’ve always liked what they’ve been about,” continued Henricks. “They (Fayette students) have always been hard-working in their athletics and it’s a good academic school.”

The 2013 graduate of Evergreen just finished his baseball career at Huntington University and is eager to get started.

He hopes his youth doesn’t deter some of the Eagles from accepting him.

“Making sure I know what I am supposed to be doing,” Henricks addressed as his biggest concern heading into the job. “I’m going to be challenged with some things, whether its parents or anyone older than me. I can deal with people that are older than me.

“I look forward to building relationships over there (at Fayette),” Henricks added. “I’m excited to get things started.”

Henricks is looking forward to a chance to ease into a position. Fayette is a good place to start for a first-time AD, as they don’t play football in the fall.

“It’s nice not having that workload, but at the same time I’m looking forward to it,” he mentioned.

Henricks steps in at a good time, as ground was broken on new spring sports facilities in Fayette.

“We have a new facility going in,” said Henricks. “We’ve got a new track and baseball field. Getting that thing (the facility) up and going and looking good and hosting an invitational (will be a priority).”

Henricks will also serve as a substitute teacher at the school. He replaces Abby Short, who stepped down to return to graduate school.
