Swanton Junior High wrestlers competed in the NWOAL tournament Saturday at Liberty Center High School. The Bulldogs finished fourth place in the team standings, and had four wrestlers in Jason Newman, Ian Saunders, Connor Cass, and Brodie Stevens capture league titles in their weight class.
Newman won his title at 116 pounds by a fall over Stewart Willis of Liberty Center. In the following match, Saunders claimed his title at 122 pounds with a major decision over Kaleb Barnes of Delta 10–2.
Swanton would then wait six more weight classes before claiming its next two champions. The third title came in the 205-pound class as Cass defeated Jose Bzjorano of Patrick Henry 10–4, and the fourth came quickly after as Stevens won by a fall in 38 seconds over Monte Treesh of Montpelier to claim the 245-pound class.
The Bulldogs had all nine of their wrestlers competing in the tournament receive all-league recognition by placing in the top four of their weight class. Kameron Maxfield, Derrick Cook, Zeth Zawodni, Riley Hicks, and Hunter Gowing all placed fourth.
