FAIRBORN – The Swanton wrestling team competed at the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association holiday tournament Wednesday and Thursday, finishing 11th with 65 points in the Small School Division.
Wrestling powerhouse St. Paris Graham Local won the Small School Division with 311 points.
The Bulldogs were well represented as many of their wrestlers picked up multiple victories.
At 120 pounds, Swanton’s Trevor Schaller opened the tournament with pins of Wes Gandee of Miami Trace and Javelle Howard of Anderson. He then dropped a 10-2 major decision to David Hasty of Stebbins which sent him to the consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket Schaller defeated Chase Henderson of Glen Este 10-0, but was eliminated with a 11-4 loss to Andrew Shaffer of St. Paris Graham.
Gage Pachlhofer of Swanton opened with a 9-5 win over Versailles’ Steven Mangen at 132 pounds, then defeated Pickerington Central’s Keaton Middendorf by pin.
He fell to the consolation bracket after dropping a 4-3 decision to Coleman Manning of Eaton. Pachlhofer then lost his first match of the consolation bracket, 8-6, to Cole Foster of Big Walnut.
Noah Saunders lost his first match at 138 pounds for the Dogs, but responded with three wins before being eliminated. In the consolation bracket, he defeated Northmont’s Ezra Smith 8-0, Gage Bickley of West Branch by pin, and Romeo Gabriel of Hamilton Township 5-2.
Chase Moore of Swanton opened with a 10-0 major decision against Troy’s Justin Mittelstadt at 145 pounds. He then defeated Zane Trace’s Dawson Hoselton 7-2, and earned a pin over Kayden Schmidt of Centerville before dropping his next two.
Swanton’s Ryan Marvin had a bye in the first round at 152 pounds, but opened competition with a pin of Pickerington Central’s Silas Pearson. He later clipped Walton-Verona’s Aaron Teipe 6-5 before losing his next two to eliminate him.
The Bulldogs’ Tyler Houston started with a bye in the 160-pound bracket, then defeated Centerville’s Deaglen Pyle 11-8. However, he then lost his next two matches.
Zack Leahey dropped his first match at 170 pounds for the Dogs, pinned Bellbrook’s Anthony Barhorst, and defeated Milton-Union’s Caleb Black 6-3 before being eliminated.
Swanton’s Crew Oberheim earned one win at 195 pounds before he was ousted. He pinned Will Brumfield of Troy in 28 seconds.
At 220 pounds, Swanton’s Greg Wilson earned pins over Chad Suttles of Tecumseh and Mason Mills of West Carrollton. Tommy Lytle earned one win for the Dogs in the heavyweight division, as he opened with a pin of Covington’s Carl Lankford in 2:24.
