OTTAWA HILLS – Swanton boys soccer could not overcome a 4-1 halftime deficit, and Ottawa Hills added another goal in the second half for a 5-1 win in the Division III sectional final Saturday evening.

The Green Bears first took the lead a little less than six minutes in when Kevin Hileman banged one in on the left side. Then, at the 28:21 mark, Hileman scored again on a pass from Dylan Schreder which made it 2-0.

Swanton finally answered the bell with Tanner Prentice scoring on a nice second effort play in which he had multiple attempts at the net, slicing the Ottawa Hills lead in half with 25:38 left in the opening half.

However, it would not be that close for long.

Schreder flew past the Bulldog defense and buried a shot in the left corner of the net to make it 3-1 with 12:37 left in the half. He later knocked one in at the 8:15 mark as Ottawa Hills led by three at the break.

Swanton had a goal taken off the board in the second half on a questionable call by the officials.

It happened when Josh Adcock got to a ball near the Ottawa Hills goal at the 30:02 mark, and although their goalkeeper Patrick Arnold had it for a second, it came loose and Adcock scored. However, it was determined after a brief meeting that Arnold had full possession of the ball prior to being contacted by Adcock and the goal was waved off.

Tanner Callicotte also put one on target for the Dogs at the 19:03 mark, but his shot which came near the sideline on right was snagged by Arnold.

Schreder then scored again on a free kick with 3:12 to go to complete the scoring.

Swanton defeated Maumee Valley Country Day 5-1 last Tuesday in the sectional semifinal. They finish the season with a record of 12-4-1.
