The Swanton volleyball team completed its most successful Northwest Ohio Athletic League season on record with a thrilling five set victory over Delta last Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 25-19. 21-25, 25-19, 12-25, 17-15.
The win secured a second place finish in the NWOAL behind Patrick Henry. With a 5-2 league record, it was the highest finish ever for a Bulldog volleyball team. Last season, Swanton was 6-2 in the NWOAL, finishing in third place.
Sidney Taylor led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, scoring 17 kills with just 2 errors. Taylor also had 3 aces. Cydney Christensen had 16 kills for Swanton.
Mary Miller had 13 kills for Delta.
Taylor also had 23 digs with Julia Smith adding 20. Emily Clifton paced Delta with 18. Abby Arnold had 42 assists for Swanton (17-4) from the setter position.
The Bulldogs and head coach Kyle Borer now turn their attention to the postseason. Swanton, who earned the third seed in the district tournament, hosts 14 seed Woodmore on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The winner of that contest will face either fourth seeded Evergreen or sixth seeded Elmwood in the next round, Saturday at 1 p.m.
