Delta did everything from making big plays to making sure there was enough sauce on the hot dogs in a 56-21 NWOAL win at Evergreen Friday to pick up their second win of the season.
Evergreen remains winless after seven games.
After forcing a Viking punt, Jesse Beverly took care of the both of the aforementioned topics. He did so by breaking through the right side of the defense for 75 yards before back flipping the ball to a trailing Bowen Green for the touchdown to put the Panthers up 7-0 with 9:31 left in the first.
That score held until the first play of the second quarter when quarterback Jason Beverly scrambled out of trouble on a third-and-goal from the 8 and into the end zone to double the Panther lead.
The next series on second-and-14 from their own 23, Jason Beverly hit a wide open Elliot Schneider for a 77-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-0.
Evergreen forced the Panthers into a punt situation, however, the Vikings over pursued on a botched fake and Jesse Beverly rounded the right side and lumbered 53 yards for a score and a 28-0 lead.
The Panthers weren’t done for the quarter as after Bryce Hudik’s second 68 yard punt of the half, Jesse Beverly got around the right side and went 91 yards for a score, giving them a 35-0 halftime lead.
A Beverly to Beverly touchdown pass of 51 yards made it 42-0, and Green picked off a Jack Etue pass and went 48 yards for another score before the Vikings hit the scoreboard.
Hunter VanWert finished a penalty filled 80 yard rive, darting the last 14 yards for the first Viking score in the fourth.
With the score 49-7, Delta tried a fake punt again but Jesse Beverly was taken down in the backfield and two more VanWert runs of 27 and 18 covered the 45 yards to the end zone, making it 49-14.
After forcing another Panther punt, Tyler Noe took an Etue slant 69 yards to the Delta 20. Then, two plays later, VanWert scored his third TD of the fourth quarter from 10 yards out.
Kaden Harper took the ensuing onside kick attempt 70 yards for a Delta touchdown to round out the scoring for the evening.
In all Jesse Beverly ran for 336 of the Panther 388 yards on the ground in just 15 carries to lead the Panthers.
VanWert led the Vikings as the sophomore speedster ran for 81 yards on just eight carries.
Delta hosts Bryan this Friday while Evergreen travels to Patrick Henry.
