GENOA — Ottawa Hills made good on its chances while Swanton could not connect, leading to a 5-0 win for the Green Bears over the Bulldogs in a Division III girls soccer district semifinal on the campus of Genoa Area Local Schools Tuesday night.
The Bears jumped on top 5:56 into the game when after a throw-in from the sidelines, Annika Padhye fed the ball in front to Lily Richardson for the finish and 1-0 lead. At the 29:32 mark of the first half, Padhye would score herself from just inside the penalty area for a two-goal margin.
Prior to the second Green Bear goal, Swanton had a shot from Alaina Pelland plus a follow-up from Megan Haselman that were both turned away by the Ottawa Hills goalkeeper.
Also, Swanton’s Jessica Finfera nearly was able bend her corner kick in for a goal, but it was just of the mark.
Ottawa Hills put the game out of reach with three goals in the first 8:17 of half number two.
Padhye finished one in front 2:04 in, she completed a hat trick at the 35:39 mark after an attempt from Haselman was thwarted at the other end, then Liz Lathrop finished the scoring with a goal with 31:43 remaining.
The Bulldogs’ best chance to score down the stretch came with 11:30 to play. Pelland was straight on with a free kick attempt from approximately 25 to 30 yards out, however, the shot missed left of the net.
