Vikings thwart Panthers in Junior ACME baseball

Staff Report

Besides playing high octane travel baseball in the summer, there are still a few teams that field Junior ACME and ACME programs that are like spring training for the following season…only a few months early.

The biggest keys are learning to throw strikes, play defense, and put the ball in play and work on the swing.

Evergreen threw more strikes and took advantage of numerous walks by putting the ball in play at the right times to post a 16-1 Junior ACME win over Delta Tuesday at Mac Simon Field.

Evergreen struck for two first-inning runs on a pair of walks and a throwing error, then blew the game wide open in the second.

After a walk and hit batter, Quin Eisel drove a base hit down the left field line, then Ryder Hudik, John Herdman and Hunter Vaculik each followed with run-scoring hits to make it 6-0.

A pair of Delta errors, including a three-base miscue on a dropped fly ball, added to what turned out to be an 11-run inning and a 13-0 Evergreen lead.

Ryder Hudik allowed just one hit in his three innings of work and struck out six.

Delta scored off Herdman in the fourth on base hits from Jack Tedrick and Nathan Elta that produced the Panther tally for the night.

Evergreen tacked on three more in the fourth on a parade of four walks and an infield hit from JJ Johnson.

Evergreen hosts Archbold Thursday.
