The Swanton boys basketball team came out victorious in the Bob Fisher Holiday Classic defeating Maumee Valley Country Day 56-25 in the championship Tuesday, Dec. 28 in Swanton.

Swanton’s Nic Borojevich started the game off hot, nailing two free throws and hitting a layup while being fouled, adding the plus one as well. He racked up the first 5 points for the Bulldogs, but his brother Luc Borojevich wanted in on the action, hitting a three point shot to give Swanton an 8 point lead with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

The Hawks received a technical foul for a roster error in which Nic Borojevich hit one of two from the line. Sam Betz added two for the Bulldogs, making the score 11-0 with 3:54 remaining in the quarter.

Betz continued to tally up the points making a three, but MVCD’s Alec Shoepf finished the quarter hitting a three of his own, getting the Hawks on the board.

The first quarter ended 14-3 with the Bulldogs on top.

The second quarter started unlike the first with Amani Dickerson scoring for the Hawks.

Nic Borojevich answered back immediately with another jumper making the score 16-5 with 6:30 left in the first half.

Christian Majors hit a two to bring the Hawks some more momentum, but once again Nic Borojevich hit a two-point shot to keep Swanton in front with a substantial lead.

Maumee Valley Country Day’s Talon Kuhl snuck in a three, but it would be no match for the 5 points Nic Borojevich added along with Mitchey’s two free throws. The Bulldogs led by 15 with 3:25 to go in the second quarter.

Mitchey’s made jumper, only to be answered back with another from Majors, put the score at 27-12 with two minutes remaining in the first half.

Swanton then continued to kill the clock until Luc Borojevich was fouled with 33 seconds left. He went on to hit both shots giving the Hawks the ball for the last possession of the second quarter.

Majors ended the first half hitting a two-point shot for Maumee Valley to make it 29-14 going into the third quarter.

It was Nic Borojevich that started off the second half for the Bulldogs after a few missed shots by both teams; Swanton was on the board first with six minutes left in the period.

Betz hit a three coming right out of a timeout with 4 minutes and 36 seconds until the fourth.

David Parcher kept the Hawks motivated with a layup, but yet again, Nic Borojevich came down the court and got another two for Swanton. The score was 36-16 until Luc Borojevich drove down the court missing his first attempt, but hitting his own rebounded buzzer-beater for two.

Mitchey and Betz came out hot for the fourth quarter, both draining threes in the opening minute.

Kuhl kept with it though driving to the basket, not only making the layup but the additional free throw as well for Maumee Valley.

Pawlowicz hit one of two from the free throw line in addition to Nic Borojevich’s two-point basket and Mitchey’s two made free throws, extending the Bulldogs’ lead by six at the 1:30 mark

A hustle play by Luc Borojevich took him to the line, making his first shot and missing his second, but a rebound by Nic Borojevich resulted in another basket for two, making the score 52-19 with less than four minutes to go in the game.

Majors hit a three for the Hawks, Mitchey answered with a two and Dickerson came back hitting one of two from the free throw line after being fouled.

Swanton’s Kayden Davis came off the bench hitting a free throw for the Bulldogs. Majors rebounded the ball following the free throw and snagged a layup as the Bulldog defense settled into place. Davis came back and found himself at the line again in which he made one of two.

Three Swanton players were in double digits including Nic Borojevich at 23 points, Betz 11 points, and Mitchey.
