ARCHBOLD – Four Swanton wrestlers, led by Brodie Stevens, will advance to the district tournament following top four finishes at the Division III Archbold sectional.

Stevens won the championship at 285 pounds, getting past Tyler Martin of Fairview, 2-1. To get there, he pinned Cody Sheller of Evergreen in 35 seconds and beat Zane Gaines of Tinora 9-4.

The Bulldogs had a pair of runner-up finishers.

At 152 pounds, Tyler Gowing topped Jon Tammarine of Liberty Center 9-0 in the quarterfinal and Kaleb Barnes of Delta 7-1 in the semi. In the final, he fell to Lucas Schlegel of Tinora 10-0.

Ian Saunders pinned Nate Jokinen of Delta in his first match at 182 pounds then pinned Gavin Wurm of Montpelier in the semifinal. He was then pinned by Lucas Flory of Tinora in the championship final.

The fourth Swanton qualifier was a bit of a surprise. Hunter Gowing pinned Brody Fisher of Paulding then topped Owen Berner of Ayersville 9-5.

He then fell to Aaron Short of Tinora 15-0 in the semifinal. He responded with a 13-10 win in the consolation semifinal over Hunter Hamblin of Edgerton to secure a district bid.

In the third place match, he was defeated by Evan Perry of Delta 16-1.

Also for Swanton, Xavier Wiemken placed fifth at 170 pounds and Cody DeKoeyer sixth at 138 pounds.

As a team, the Bulldogs finished seventh with 99 points. Tinora won with 207 points, followed by Archbold at 200 and Delta 195.5.

Evergreen had three district qualifiers.

They were led by Logan York, who won a sectional championship at 195 pounds. He topped Bryce Krill of Fairview 17-2 and Riley Coil of Paulding 10-5, before beating Adrian Juarez of Archbold to win the title.

Brian Floyd was fourth at 170 pounds. He knocked off Wiemken 10-6 in the quaterfinal before falling to Archbold’s Carson Meyer in the semi. Floyd rebounded to win his consolation semi 4-2 over Owen Johnson of Liberty Center before falling to Tinora’s Tim Meyer 8-4 in the third place match.

Ayden Glecker also advanced with a fourth place finish at 106 pounds. He pinned Charity Schnepp of Paulding before being pinned by Evan Hanefeld of Delta. Glecker then pinned Alexus Shaneyfelt of Liberty Center to advance to the third place match where he fell to Wyat Fryman of Archbold 10-0.

Also, Colin Smith placed fifth at 132 pounds for the Vikings.

The Division III district will be held at Napoleon this Friday and Saturday.
