The Swanton wrestling team won a dual meet Thursday before placing in the top 15 at the 41-team Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational.

The Bulldogs topped Montpelier 51-12 Thursday on senior night. Winning by pin for Swanton were Cody DeKoeyer, Hunter Gowing, Tyler Gowing, Tyler Anderson, Xavier Wiemken, and Ian Saunders. Brodie Stevens picked up a win by decision.

At the Thunderbird Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Saunders had the highest finish, placing fourth at 182 pounds. He pinned Micah May of Otsego and Mikey Brzeczek of Woodmore to advance to the semifinal.

In the semi, Saunders fell to eventual champion Tanner May of Carey, 5-2. He picked up a pin in the consolation semi before being pinned by Brzeczek in the third place match.

Wiemken (170) and Stevens (285) each placed fifth.

Wiemken pinned Chris Farr of Tri-County North in 23 seconds in his first match, before falling to Caden Brown of Ayersville 10-5. In the consolation bracket he pinned Shane Ontrop of Coldwater in 36 seconds, then pinned Brier Godsey of Crestview.

He fell to Brown again in the consolation semi, but rebounded to top Isiah Leasure of Triad 8-4 in the fifth place match.

Stevens won his first match at 285 pounds by pinning Cael Rose of Miami East. He then dropped a tight 2-1 decision to Ty Stevenson of Preble Shawnee.

In the consolation bracket, Stevens pinned Eli Franks of McComb and Jose Bejarano of Patrick Henry before falling to Jeff Meyer of Columbus Grove. He then beat Josh Logan of New London 3-1 in the fifth place match.

Apple Creek Waynedale won the tournament with 246 points, beating out second place Allen East, who had 229.5. Swanton had 72 points to finish 13th.

Swanton will host Delta, Anthony Wayne, and Liberty Center on Thursday and participate in the Hoover Duals at Springfield Saturday.
