Swanton boys basketball split a pair of non-league contests last week. They defeated Maumee of the Northern Lakes League but fell to Edgerton.

Swanton held off Maumee for a 57-52 non-league win Tuesday, Dec. 17 at home. The Bulldogs built an early lead and held off the Panthers.

Swanton led 11-4 after the first quarter of play. Then after a tighter second quarter, held a 22-16 advantage at halftime.

Maumee cut the deficit to five after the third quarter and that would prove to be the deficit at the end after an even fourth period.

Andrew Thornton paced the Bulldogs (4-2) with 19 points. Josh Vance added 12 points.

David Walker finished with 27 points for the Panthers (1-5).

On Saturday, Swanton fell behind Edgerton early and couldn’t fight all the way back in the second half. Swanton trailed 15-8 after the first and fell behind by 12 points, 26-14, at halftime.

They cut the deficit to 10 after the third but Edgerton held on in the fourth quarter.

Thornton paced the Bulldog offense with 16 points.

Logan Showalter led Edgerton (3-2) with 13 points.

Swanton will be in action again this week when they host the Swanton Holiday Tournament on Friday and Saturday. They will play Delta Friday at approximately 7 p.m. They then will face either Fairview or Miller City on Saturday.
