OTTAWA HILLS – Swanton surrendered five first half goals in what resulted in a 9-0 loss at the hands of Ottawa Hills – the state’s top team in Division III – in a boys soccer district semifinal Wednesday at the Green Bears’ home field.
The Green Bears had three different players score two goals each.
Ottawa Hills went up 3-0 by the 17:45 mark of the first half as John Kight scored on a centering pass from Donovan Bridges, Drew Hoffman converted a third chance opportunity, and Sergei Federov scored with the help of a Kight pass.
They would lead 5-0 at the half behind goals from Kight and Jack Silk in the final 16 minutes.
Swanton’s best chance at a goal came less than two and a half minutes into the contest. At the 37:33 mark, Riley Hensley handled one in front but his shot traveled just to the left of the goal.
Just 2:15 into the second half, Chase Lorenzen fired one from the left side that found the top right corner of the net to extend the margin to 6-0. Lorenzen later scored the game’s final goal.
Other second half goals for Ottawa Hills were by Truman Talbot and Federov.
Swanton finishes the 2019 campaign at 11-6-1.
