It was the Aricka Lutz show Friday as the Swanton girls soccer team began their season at home against Van Buren. She tallied a hat trick, the latter coming on a free kick with 39 seconds remaining for a 3-2 victory.
In the first half, Van Buren’s Hannah Missler fired one in the left corner of the net just over five minutes in, giving the Black Nights a 1-0 lead.
Aricka Lutz did her best to knot the score in the minutes after with multiple shots on goal. At the 27:23 mark, she juked Van Buren goalkeeper Jewelya Hutchison, however, her shot hit the outside of the net.
She would get another opportunity with just over 20 minutes left in the half, when after receiving a pass from twin sister Averie Lutz, Aricka lofted a shot over Hutchison to make it a 1-1 game.
Aricka Lutz then took advantage of Hutchison’s overaggressiveness later in the stanza, firing one into the back of the net at the 14:10 mark, putting Swanton in front.
The Knights regained their composure to start the second half. With a defender on her, Mady Parker booted one in the right corner 8:35 in to tie it at 2.
However, less than a minute later, the Bulldogs threatened at the other end. Aricka Lutz had a shot on goal deflected by Hutchison, then Caroline Vargas’ putback attempt missed to the left.
That all led up to Aricka Lutz’ free kick goal which sealed the Bulldog win.
Swanton opens Northwest Ohio Athletic League play by hosting Evergreen Thursday at 5 p.m.
