The Evergreen girls basketball team is viewed as one of the favorites to win the NWOAL in 2015. They have a total of five returning letter winners and four starters coming back off a team that was 16-9 overall and 5-3 in the NWOAL last season.
“We expect a very good season,” said Evergreen coach John Langenderfer of his team’s season outlook. “Losing our top scorer from last year’s JV team to a torn ACL (Lexie Shipman ) is a major blow to our bench. But if we can stay healthy, we have a number of kids who can score and shoot the 3-point shot. We aren’t very physical and problems defending and rebounding (could arise), but we can handle the ball.
“Everyone loves to score – we won’t need a shot clock.”
The Vikings return Haili Mossing (first team All-NWOAL, all-district), Eden Eisel (second team All-NWOAL, honorable mention all-district) and Alyssa Noe (honorable mention All-NWOAL, all-district).
Coach Langenderfer likes the experience of his team, their chemistry with one another, and their ability to shoot.
However, they only have seven varsity players.
“Depth will be a major problem and any injuries will be devastating,” said Langenderfer who is entering his 13th season at the helm. He is 184-84 as the coach at Evergreen.
The coach thinks his Vikings will finish third in the league behind Archbold and Patrick Henry. He has Delta finishing fourth, Montpelier fifth, Swanton sixth, Wauseon seventh, Bryan eighth and Liberty Center ninth.
