Evergreen boys basketball will look for a steady improvement over the season in order to get to where they want to be by the end of the season.
“We are going to work hard every day and try to improve in all areas of the game,” said Evergreen coach Jerry Keifer.
Despite only returning three letter winners, the Vikings have the ability to have a lot of depth this season.
“We are going to play a lot of people and play as hard as we can, as long as we can,” explained Keifer.
Coming back for the Vikings are Nick Etue, Alec Truckor and Peyton Pawlaczyk. They will be hoping to replace the production left behind by departed letter winners Kyle Brighton (honorable mention All-NWOAL, all-district), Max Oswald (honorable mention All-NWOAL, all-district), Chad Maseman (first team All-NWOAL, all-district), Peyton Willeman, and Tristin Wilson.
“We only have one returning starter and three lettermen returning this season. So experience is definitely going to be a major weakness going into the season,” said Keifer.
Adding to the Viking roster are newcomers Austin Blanton, Phoenix VanOstrand, Teagan Pinkelman, Josh Dowling, John Machacek, Bryce Hudik, Derek Poore, Jon Milliken and Chandler Lumbrezer.
Keifer expects Wauseon and Swanton to battle for first place in the NWOAL, followed by Archbold, Delta, Liberty Center, Montpelier, Bryan and Patrick Henry.
Evergreen opens up by hosting Northwood today before welcoming in Swanton on Thursday for a non-league game.
