Several Bulldogs placed in the top four at the district competition and advanced to regional track and field tournaments over the weekend.
The Swanton girls were runners-up as a team at Division III District 1 at Archbold High School. Genoa won the team title.
Leading the way for Swanton with first place finishes were Hannah Grabke in the pole vault and Bobbie Oberle in the long jump. Bobbie Oberle also placed second in the 100 meter hurdles to advance and was fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Swanton’s 4×100 meter relay team of Jayden Hendricks, Audrey Szalapski, Brooke Oberle and Bobbie Oberle was second behind Genoa. Brooke Oberle also qualified for the regional with a fourth place finish in the 100m and a third place finish in the 200m.
The Bulldogs had a pair of regional qualifiers in both the high jump and discus. Jasmin Kenzie and Avril Roberts followed up their 1-2 league finish with third and fourth place high jump finishes on Thursday. Ella Ford of Delta won the event.
In the discus, Grace Oakes was second and Sammi Taylor third for Swanton. Taylor was also seventh in the shot put.
Brooke Dockery advanced in the 800m by placing third.
The Swanton 4x800m relay team of Aricka Lutz, Macy Pawlowicz, Briona Davis, and Dockery also moved on with a fourth place finish. The 4x200m team just missed advancing with a fifth place finish.
Boys advance in D-II
Dylan Gilsdorf led the way for the Swanton boys at the Division II District in Defiance, advancing in three events. His top finish was a title in the 1600m.
Gilsdorf was third in the high jump and was also part of the third place 4x800m relay team. Other relay members were Brett Bettinger, Donovan Avalos, and Blaine Pawlowicz.
Bettinger is also moving on in an individual event after taking first place in the 3200m run.
Also placing for Swanton was Dean Croskey, who was sixth in the shot put and Gilsdorf, who was sixth in the 800.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished 9th out of 15 squads with 38 points. Van Wert won the team title, followed by Elida and Central Catholic.
The girls will now compete at the Division III regional in Tiffin on Wednesday and Friday, while the boys compete at the Division II regional in Piqua on Thursday and Saturday.
