Swanton Middle School girls take third, boys fourth at home track invitational last week

Swanton hosted a junior high track invitational April 22 where their girls finished third as a team and the boys took fourth.

Liberty Center took home both team titles.

Leading the Swanton girls was Emma Crow who won the mile and 800m. The 4x400m relay team of Kyleigh Shinaver, Bailey DeKoeyer, Kelsey Schaffer and Crow also finished first.

Clarissa Smith placed first in the pole vault for the Bulldogs. Tiffany Luo was second in the long jump, while Katie Floyd was runner-up in the shot put and discus. Maddie Jaqua finished fourth in the shot put.

Lilly Alfsen was third in the high jump and fourth in the 200m. In addition, Morgan Smith took fourth in the high jump.

Swanton’s 4x200m relay team of Shinaver, Peighton Manning, Megan Haselman and DeKoeyer placed third.

Kayden Davis paced the boys as he was first in the high jump, setting a new meet record by clearing 5 feet, 8 inches.

The Bulldogs’ 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams of Blaize Garncarz, Mason Black, Kamon Molina and Gavin Parker both finished first, as did the 4x400m team of Xander Wiemken, Garncarz, Abel Carman and Davis.

Carman also placed third in the mile and 800m. Wiemken was third in the long jump, while Parker took third in the 100m.

Molina finished runner-up in the 110m hurdles. Also, Zach Didion took fourth in the 200m hurdles.

Dogs take fourth at Montpelier Invite

The Swanton teams each took fourth at the Montpelier Invitational Saturday. Their boys recorded 56 points while the girls notched 55.

Archbold won the boys team title and the Blue Streaks tied for first with Montpelier for the girls overall title.

Davis was first in the high jump for the Swanton boys. Molina took first in the 110m hurdles and finished runner-up in the 200m hurdles.

Carman placed third in the mile, as did the 4x400m relay of Wiemken, Garncarz, Carman and Davis. The 4x200m relay of Garncarz, Aeden Kirtz, Molina and Parker finished fourth for the Dogs.

On the girls side, Lexi Taylor won the discus. Jaqua was fourth in the shot put while Luo took third in long jump.

Alfsen finished fourth in the high jump. DeKoeyer took third in the 400m for Swanton.

The Dogs garnered a second place relay finish from Olivia Gowing, Alaina Pelland, Haselman and Alfsen in the 4x100m relay.
