TIFFIN – Five turnovers committed by Swanton, a total of four penalties for 40 yards, and a 37 yard field goal hit by Milan Edison’s Lucas Munroe in the third quarter helped the Chargers defeat the Bulldogs, 17-15, Friday night in the Division III regional semifinal held at Frost-Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin.
The Bulldogs were outgained by Edison 262-250.
Swanton’s Michael Lawniczak had a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter to cap off a lengthy drive. Quarterback Bryce McComb hit Gunnar Oakes for a 13 yard TD with 3:23 left in the game for the Bulldogs’ other score.
McComb finished the game with 165 yards on 11 of 21 passing for a TD but had three interceptions. Gilsdorf caught five passes for 105 yards.
Lawniczak carried 22 times for 55 yards and a score.
Edison’s Dan Stoll led the rushing attack with 82 yards on the ground and a TD. Quarterback Keegan Hall rushed 12 times for 54 yards and a score.
The loss ends Swanton’s historic season that saw them finish 10-2 with their first NWOAL title since 1995. They also picked up the school’s first ever playoff win last week when they defeated Apple Creek Waynedale.
