Swanton girls basketball nipped in overtime by Maumee

MAUMEE – Swanton let a lead slip away late as they fell on the road to Maumee, 57-54, in overtime of a girls basketball contest Tuesday.

The Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 15-12 in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime tied at 50. A Sophie King three-pointer in the final minute of the extra session was the difference.

For Swanton, Averie Lutz led all scorers with 24 points. She also had six steals and four rebounds. Aricka Lutz added seven points, seven rebounds and six steals.

Brynn Brown paced Maumee with 13 points and eight rebounds, while King tacked on 11 points and three rebounds.

Swanton’s league battle with Wauseon was canceled Thursday due to the extreme cold. It will be made up next Tuesday, Feb. 5. The Bulldogs travel to Cardinal Stritch on Monday.
