Swanton wrestling downs Patrick Henry, falls to Liberty Center at Archbold quad

Swanton split matches at a Northwest Ohio Athletic League wrestling quad Thursday in Archbold. The Bulldogs defeated Patrick Henry but fell to Liberty Center.

Swanton dropped its match with LC 39-26, then bounced back with a 55-9 win over PH.

Earning wins by pin for the Dogs versus the Tigers were Ethan Branum at 138 pounds and Tyler Gowing at 145 pounds. Zachary LaPlante of Swanton added a technical fall win at 113 pounds, Cody DeKoeyer (132) by an 8-6 decision, Ian Saunders (160) a 12-5 decision, and Brodie Stevens (285) 2-1 in overtime over Connor Johnson.

Swanton had six wins via forfeit in the match with PH. Adding pins were Hunter Gowing (145) and Stevens (285). Additionally, Zeth Zawodni (120) won by a 10-3 decision and DeKoeyer (132) shut out Addison Vance 11-0.

The Bulldogs then placed fifth out of 30 teams at the Van Buren Invitational held Friday and Saturday. They finished with 127.5 points. Eastwood won with 210 points.

They were led by Ryan Marvin with a first place finish at 152 pounds. Other placers were Zach Schaller who took third at 126 pounds; LaPlante (113), Ian Saunders (160) and Connor Cass (195) who each placed fifth in their respective weight classes; and Stevens who was sixth.

Swanton is at Lima Central Catholic for the Thunderbird Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
