Most of Swanton’s roster returns for the 2018-19 season as they look to rebound from last season’s 7-16 mark.

Senior Randy Slink leads the list of six returning letter winners for the Bulldogs. He averaged 10.5 points and 5 rebounds per game last year en route to being named honorable mention all-league and honorable mention all-district.

Senior Jared Wilson returns after averaging 7.5 points per game. He was honorable mention all-league.

Dylan Gilsdorf is back for his senior season following a junior season where he was named honorable mention all-district and had five points and three assists per contest.

Hunter Mix is the other returning senior and he scored six points per game last season.

A pair of sophomores are also returning letter winners for the Bulldogs. Andrew Thornton averaged 3.7 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game and Josh Vance 3.5 points and 3 rebounds per game as freshmen.

Second year coach Joel Visser said having those six returning letter winners and five seniors on the roster will be the strength for Swanton this year. Visser has a career record of 36-35, having also coached at Tipp City Tippecanoe.

He said the Bulldogs “need to prove we can score and rebound.”

Swanton lost two seniors to graduation – Zach Bloom and Reece Pawlowicz. Promising newcomers for Swanton include Justyn Bartlet and Dean Croskey.

Visser said he thinks the Bulldogs “have the ability and potential to play and compete with anyone but we have a lot to prove.”

As for the Northwest Ohio Athletic League, the coach says the league will be balanced top to bottom and “overall really good.”

Last season, Swanton finished seventh in the league with a 1-6 mark, beating only Liberty Center. They did, however, beat Evergreen and Delta in non-league contests.

Swanton will open the season at home Dec. 4 against Rossford. That will be followed by six straight road games.

The non-league schedule also includes games against Evergreen, Delta, Otsego, Ottawa Hills, Lake, Genoa, Cardinal Stritch and a trip to the Warrior Classic at Emmanuel Christian Dec. 28-29.

They open league play at Bryan on Jan. 10.
