The Swanton Local School District and St. Richard School in Swanton will join schools from around the world to celebrate international Walk to School Day on Wednesday. Swanton students will be walking and rolling to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.
The event is being organized locally by the Swanton Local School District, St. Richard Catholic School, the Village of Swanton, and Maumee Valley Planning Organization. A school travel plan was created in 2017 and Swanton was recently was awarded a Safe Routes to School Grant to make walking and riding to school safer for students.
