The Rotary International theme for September is Education and Literacy.

The Rotary Club of Swanton focused on this theme throughout the past month. Program and speakers included Adam Walter, Swanton Public Library director; Chris Lake, Swanton Local School District superintendent; Cheryl Rothschild of Read for Literacy, and Jessica Hover, from the American Heart Association.

The Rotary Club of Swanton has always focused on education as a focal point of its service, whether it be locally or internally in Honduras.

This past month the Rotary Club of Swanton was proud to present a check for $1,000 to Matt Smith, Principal of Swanton Middle School. This donation is to be used as a sponsorship for the Swanton Seven Championship Cup. The Cup will be awarded at the end of the school year to the winning house at SMS.

Finally, this past month the Rotary Club of Swanton honored Mrs. Chris Elliot with the Golden Apple Award and made a donation to Backpack Buddies in her honor.

October’s theme is Economic and Community Development and the Rotary Club of Swanton will focus on this theme as well as welcome Rotary District 6600 District Governor for a visit on Oct. 18.
