Pick up and drop off at Swanton Elementary School will be impacted by Church Street construction as the school year begins. This has led the district to implement some changes until the street reopens.
The estimate is that section of Church Street will reopen after Labor Day.
First, the district is strongly encouraging parents to have their student ride the bus to and from school during this time so the amount of traffic can be reduced.
The district will also take steps to alleviate the congestion. First, the morning bus run for elementary students will be delayed by 10 minutes. The hope is this will give parents who drop of their students time to clear the area before buses arrive.
Second, students who are dropped off by parents will be admitted into the elementary beginning at 8:15 a.m. instead of the usual 8:30 a.m., They will wait in the gym for class to start.
Finally, students who walk home or are picked up be parents will be released at 3 p.m.
These changes will end when Church Street is reopened. Paving is scheduled to begin on Wednesday. All work is weather permitting.
