US20A intersection to become four-way stop

Staff Report

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two has announced safety upgrades at the US Route 20A and Weckerly Road intersection.

On Wednesday, ODOT will add stop signs on US 20A, making the intersection at Weckerly Road an all-way stop. Message boards are posted along US 20A to alert drivers of this change. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area as this new traffic pattern is established.

The improvements are a result of a recent safety study conducted by ODOT. The study revealed that between 2013 and 2017, there was a total of 23 crashes, with 19 of them being angle crashes.

ODOT is also in the process of designing a roundabout for the intersection as a long-term safety improvement. Roundabouts reduce the number and severity of crashes, while keeping traffic flowing.

With Lucas County Engineer’s Office and Monclova Township contributing a significant amount of local funding, ODOT was able to secure safety funding for the rest of the roundabout construction cost. Construction of the roundabout is expected in fall 2020.
