Swanton Library plans adult programs

There are several programs planned for adults this August at the Swanton Public Library.


Mixed Level Hatha Yoga I & II will be held on Mondays, Aug. 6, 13, and 27 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. These sessions are slightly more advanced, providing an opportunity to expand participants’ skill levels. Class fee is $10 per session.

Hatha Yoga Basics will be offered on Thursdays, the 2nd, 9th, and 30th from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Class fee is by donation and proceeds benefit the library.

Chair Yoga will be offered on Thursdays, Aug. 2, 9, and 30 from 2-3 p.m. Class fee is by donation, proceeds benefit the library.


Those trying to learn to preserve a farmer’s market haul or hard-earned garden produce can join Melissa from the Fulton County OSU Extension Office to learn about water bath and pressure canning methods on Aug. 1 from 1-3 p.m.

For anyone without questions, stop in and have your pressure canner tested!

Canvas Painting

Kicking off the tail end of summer, join Donna in the Children’s Room for a landscape painting class. On Aug. 8 from 5-8 p.m. Donna will teach everyone how to paint a relaxing beach scene. All supplies provided. Class fee is $25 per person and registration is required.

Book club

The Adult Book Club will meet next on Thursday, Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m.. August’s title will be “The Girl Who Wrote in Silk” by Kelli Estes. Copies are flying off the shelves, so stop in today to reserve your copy before they’re gone.

Card Making

August’s card making class will be held on Aug. 16 in the Community Room from 6:30-8 p.m. This month’s theme is country life.

Class fee is $6 (for three cards) and all supplies are provided. Children 8 and older are welcome accompanied by an adult. Call or stop in to register today!

Food Smarts

Join Mary Foster for a free class on how to preserve your hard-earned produce and cut down on food waste, even if you have no way to can your fruits and veggies. Stop by the Swanton Public Library on Aug. 28 from 4:30-6 p.m. and learn how to avoid unfortunate surprises in the back of the crisper and pantry.

Registration is not required, but strongly suggested—call, stop in, or visit the library’s website to register.

Writers Club

The Writers Club meeting at the Swanton Public Library is cancelled until further notice. They hope to host the next meeting in September, so stay tuned for further news.

Ongoing Programs

Come and join the chess group on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. or Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m. Players of all skill levels are invited.

Also available is a monthly knitting group on Wednesday, Aug. 8 and 22 from 6:30-8 p.m. No experience required and all are welcome.
