The Village of Swanton provided an update last week to construction projects planned for this summer.

The road improvement project on Church Street between Lincoln Avenue and just east of Crestwood Drive was tentatively slated to begin this week. Completion is estimated for Aug. 7.

Improvements will consist of reconstructing the pavement and widening it to 24 feet. Curb and gutter will be added to control and collect storm drainage.

Access will be limited at times on Church Street.

The project 7 sewer separation will also impact Church Street along with Lawrence Avenue, Harrison Avenue, and a small portion of E. Garfield Avenue. The area of Church Street in this project is from Hallett Avenue to near Crestwood Drive.

Work is tentatively scheduled to begin on July 9 and last until Nov. 6. Church Street will be closed to through traffic. The fire station, businesses and residents, of Church Street will be able to use the street.

This project is mainly a sewer separation project with road improvements to the section of Church Street within the project being secondary. Village officials have asked to have the road construction portion include curb and gutters so the entire street can be continuous with this look.

Access to Lawrence, Harrison and Garfield avenues will be limited at times.

Work on the Garfield Avenue bridge over Ai Creek is now tentatively slated to begin on July 9 and last until Nov. 6.

The project has been delayed because of Toledo Edison, according to Swanton Village Administrator Rosanna Hoelzle. The utility needs to finalize everything to ensure power is not disrupted during construction.

The work will consist of replacing the existing steel beam structure over Ai Creek with a proposed concrete box beam structure. Other components of the projects include pedestrian facilities on both sides, provisions for storm sewer outlets and the relocation of a water main.

West Garfield Avenue will be closed at the bridge. The drive from Memorial Park to Garfield Avenue will remain open.
