Comments sought on proposed Swanton Twp. roundabout project

Staff Report

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two is seeking public comment on the proposed project that would include two roundabouts south of Toledo Express Airport in Swanton Township.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has proposed a highway project on US 20A (Sager Road). The project proposes construction of two modern roundabouts at the intersections of US 20A and Berkey Southern Road (SR 295) and at the intersection of US 20A and Whitehouse-Spencer Road.

Additional activities associated with the project include removal of the Air Cargo Parkway and US 20A intersection and closure of the Maumee Western Road and US 20A intersection to decrease the number of intersections along US 20A. The Toledo Lucas County Port Authority would be responsible for the closure of the Maumee Western Road and Sager Road intersection.

Lastly, the project proposes construction of a new connector road to carry traffic between Air Cargo Parkway and Berkey Southern Road due to the elimination of the intersection of Air Cargo Parkway and US 20A. This maintains the connection between Air Cargo Parkway and US 20A. Traffic on US 20A would be detoured during construction of the roundabouts; however, access to properties within the construction limits will be maintained.

Construction for the project is proposed for spring of 2019.

The public can comment on the proposed project until May 4, 2018. To help expedite a response provide the project name (LUC-20A-3.55/4.55) and PID number (94407) as well as personal contact information. A response cannot be provided without contact information.

ODOT officials would like to gather questions and comments on the current state of this section of US 20A and items that need fixed, safety concerns, etc. Other issues you may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of an enhancement project, air quality, the local economy, ecological resources, floodplains, underserved populations, and historic or cultural resources.

Questions, comments, and further information can be sent to: Stacy Schimmoeller, District Environmental Coordinator, ODOT District 2, 317 East Poe Rd., Bowling Green, Ohio 43402; called in at 419-373-4319; or emailed to
