Last Tuesday fire departments from around the area honored longtime Swanton firefighter/paramedic Patricia Brown who died March 2 following a battle with cancer.

There had been an outpouring of community support for Brown and her family, including a benefit held Feb. 24 at Swanton Sports Center that raised over $20,000.

Swanton Fire / EMS announced Brown’s passing on Facebook, thanking “the generous support and prayers from not only our community, but other counties, states and even countries.”

Many different fire departments were represented in the funeral procession from Toledo to Delta. In Delta, a pair of ladder trucks formed an arch to honor Brown.

Brown served the community for many years. She was hired in 1981 by Swanton Fire and Rescue and also worked with Delta, Metamora, and Lyons Fire and Rescue.
