Programs for adults planned at Swanton Public Library

The Swanton Public Library has several programs planned for adults over the next month.

Soapmaking 101

Karin McGilvery, owner of Abundance Soaps, will demonstrates soapmaking at the library on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6-8 p.m. The class fee is $5 and registration is required.

Flu Shot Clinic

The Fulton County Health Department will be at the library on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 2-5:30 p.m. offering flu shots. The fee for those 65 and over is $55; Medicare is accepted. The fee for those from 6 months through 64 years old is $40. Most insurance cards are accepted although Aetna and Allied are not participants. This is a walk-in event and appointments are not scheduled.

Brailey Depot Fall Fun Day

A reminder that Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the annual Brailey Depot Fall Fun Day. Head over to County Road 3 for some unique fall festivities at the restored depot. Everyone is welcome.

Intro to Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an exercise characterized by agile steps with smooth and flowing movements. It can improve energy, healing and relaxation with regular practice.

Dawn Seigneur, owner of Sukha Yoga in Delta and a physical therapist with over 30 years of experience, will be at the library on Thursday, Oct. 15 to present a program on the history of Tai Chi and to lead students in some of the exercises. This free program runs from 7-8 p.m. Call the library to register, register online or register at the circulation desk.

Yoga Classes

During October, Aimee Strohbeck will continue with her Thursday morning yoga class, Intro to Yoga, as well as her new Monday morning class, Beginning Yoga.

Intro to Yoga will be held Thursday mornings, Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. Class fee is by donation, with benefits going to the library. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Beginning Yoga will be held Monday mornings, Oct. 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. These sessions will be slightly more advanced than those on Thursday, offering students an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Cardmaking Classes

Another make and take cardmaking class led by Anna Geis is set for Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6:30-8 p.m. This month students will make gratitude cards.

Children over the age of eight, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to attend as well. The supply fee is $5 for 3 cards. Stop in at the library to look at samples or to register. You may also register online at or by phone at 419-826-2760.


The enthusiastic chess group, led by Joe Mossa, meets at the library Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. as well as Tuesday afternoons at 3. Players of all skill levels are welcome.


Knitters of all skill levels are invited to meet with instructor Kathy Queen at the library to learn new techniques and just have a good time knitting together. The daytime knitters will meet Mondays, Oct. 12 and 26 from 1:30 – 3 p.m. The evening group will meet Wednesdays, Oct. 14 and 28 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. All skill levels are welcome to attend this free class; crocheters are welcome too. Beginners please bring a pair of knitting needles, size 8 to 15.
