New, horse-friendly campsites are now open at the newly renovated Springbrook Campground at Oak Openings.
Formerly available only for group camping, Springbrook Campground now has seven individual sites, two of which come with horse corrals for camping with your horse. Each site holds two tents and up to eight people. Sites can be reserved for $20 per night.
There are also five group campsites that each hold up to five tents and 25 people. They rent for $30 a night. Scout groups can rent group sites for $15 as part of Metroparks commitment to organized youth groups.
Springbrook Campground is on the horse trail and near the Hiking Trail and Beach Ridge mountain bike trail. It has a pit toilet and hand pump for water. There is also a common area with a shelter.
The entrance is at 13833 Monclova Road just east of Waterville Swanton Road (State Route 64).
Springbrook is the second campground at Oak Openings. The White Oak Campground opened two years ago.
