Corn Festival cancels band following post by member

Rodney Parker and Liberty Beach has been canceled as the musical act for the Swanton Corn Festival on Saturday night, following a controversial post on social media by Parker.

The Corn Festival Facebook page said, “Due to recent events and circumstances, Rodney Parker and Liberty Beach will not be performing at this year’s Corn Festival. Replacement entertainment will be announced as soon as plans are finalized.”

In the post, Parker said Antifa, Black Lives Matter, communists, and socialists are “PURE TRASH, PERIOD.”

He went on to say that “White Nationalists (who’re NOT White Supremacists, just so we’re clear) TOTALLY have a legitimate right to SPEAK, BE HEARD and retaliate.”

A post on the band’s Facebook page read, “It is with deep regret that I have to have to announce this but due to the issues at hand this week, The Swanton Corn Fest has decided that they will cancel us for this Saturday.

“We apologize to our friends and fans who know this is a contrived assault against us. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We hope to see you soon.” – John

The band was also set to open for Lee Brice on Friday at the Northwest Ohio Rib Off before that performance was also canceled by event organizers on Tuesday.

The band, Sweet Time, will now perform from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, at the upper ball diamond beer garden.
