Fulton County Emergency Services Director Chad Smith resigns

Staff Report

The Fulton County Commissioners recently approved the resignation of Emergency Services Director Chad Smith. The resignation was accepted at the June 29 commissioners’ meeting.

The resignation is effective July 21. Smith said he is resigning because he has taken a job in the private sector.

“I wish the county well moving forward and for all the first responders to be safe in all they do,” said Smith. “Fulton County is a great place to live and I have enjoyed working here.”

At the meeting, commissioner Bill Rufenacht said that Smith was dedicated during his time as director and showed a passion not only for his work but the county as a whole; and that he will be missed by many.

Smith was hired as emergency services director in 2014. He served as Swanton’s fire chief prior to that.

The search to replace Smith has not yet begun, according to Fulton County Administrator Vond Hall. County officials are currently working with the county fire chiefs on a job description review.

As of now, there will be no interim director.
