Kara Nicole Ford of Swanton recently received her Juris Doctor from the Michael E. Moritz College of Law during a hooding ceremony at The Ohio State University. In addition to her law degree, Kara, the daughter of Charlene O’Connell of Swanton and the late Douglas Ford, simultaneously earned a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. She was one of only 11 dual degree recipients out of the OSU law school’s graduating class of 174.
She is a 2009 graduate of Maumee Valley Country Day School and completed her undergraduate degree in three years in political science in 2012, earning magma cum laude honors.
She has traveled far and wide, going to Africa twice and studying English common law at the prestigious University of Oxford in England. Ford has served an internship for U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur and as a page at the Ohio House of Representatives.
She served as the President for the OSU chapter of the One Campaign, an international charitable organization fighting extreme poverty and preventable diseases, mainly in Africa. Additionally, she completed two internships, one for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and one for the Children’s Defense Fund – Ohio.
She is waiting to take the Ohio Bar Exam, which will be next offered in late October.
