The Swanton Tree Commission hosted an instructional conclave on Tree Bio-Mechanics last Tuesday at the Swanton Community Center.

Presented by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry instructors Stephanie Miller from the Northwest district and Alan Seiwert from the Northeast district provided attendees an examination of what keeps trees up, what causes them to fail and the current state of research recently performed at the Davey Tree Experts Research Farm near Kent, Ohio. Of particular interest to the 30 tree service professionals, arborists and commissioners from communities as far away as St Marys and Lakeside was a discussion of the interface between sidewalks and street trees and how they can reside in harmony in communities.

The Swanton Tree Commission holds these instructional seminars annually as part of their mission to provide instruction opportunities to local northwest Ohio communities.
