Wednesday, Aug. 31

In Search of Fall Color, 9:30 a.m., Oak Openings Preserve, Buehner Center parking lot. Brilliant fall color is on its way. Discover where and when it hits first in the Metroparks by taking a nice brisk walk through the park with an interpretive guide. Register at metroparkstoledo.com. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 1

Free Dinner for All, Faith Evangelical Church, 200 Dodge St., Swanton. Serving in the church hall from 5-6:30 p.m. Menu includes meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans with bacon, bread and butter, various desserts, coffee, punch. Gary and Linda Doyle and Tom and Deb Zimmerman are hosting the meal

Intro to Yoga, 10:15 a.m., Swanton Public Library. First of five Thursday morning classes in September. A series of yoga classes taught by Aimee Strohbeck. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing for easy movement. No experience necessary. Class fee is by donation with proceeds benefiting the library.

Chair Yoga, 2 p.m., Swanton Public Library. First of five Thursday afternoon classes in September. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat is required for this class.

Swancreek Township Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. in the administration building. The public is welcome.

Thursday, Sept. 8

Family Night, 6-8 p.m., Swanton Public Library. Celebrate the first evening of the FOSPL book sale! Have a free caricature done by local cartoonist Don Lee, participate in a paper airplane contest, and get the first choice at the sale. Light refreshments will also be served.

Friday, Sept. 9

Used Media/Book Sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Swanton Public Library. It continues on Saturday with the same hours. Select books, movies, audiobooks, CDs and more, and make a donation to the Friends. Sale will be held in the Children’s Program Room at the library. Proceeds benefit library programs.

Monday, Sept. 12

Swanton Village Council will meet at the Swanton Municipal Building, 219 Chestnut St. at 7 p.m. Public Service and Public Safety Committees will meet prior to the regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

Swanton Township Trustees will meet at Swanton Township Hall, 13410 Airport Highway at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Board of Library Teens will hold first meeting of the school year at 4:45 p.m. at Swanton Public Library.

Weekly/Monthly Event

Swanton Garden Club will hold monthly meetings. They will meet the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Call Jan Heyman at 419-206-2047 or Elfrieda Jewell at 419-826-4129 prior to the meeting to find out the location.

Growing through Grief Bereavement Group will meet the fourth Tuesday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 N. Main St., Swanton. Conducted by licensed bereavement counselors, the sessions are free and open to anyone in the community who is interested in attending. Pre-registration is required. Alzheimer’s Support Group, last Tuesday of each month, 3 p.m., 214 S. Munson Road, Swanton. Family members who are or will be caregivers are invited to a monthly forum. Come discuss your changing role and how to find resources to assist you. Call Chris Cremean for reservations at (419) 825-1145.
