Dementia Awareness, 7-8 p.m., Swanton Public Library. Join us as Chris Cremean of Swanton Healthcare presents “Becoming a Dementia-Friendly Community.” Chris will share tips and best practices for working and living with those dealing with this disease. Thursday, Aug. 25

Preventing Diabetes, 7-8 p.m., Swanton Public Library. A presentation by Susan Dittes, manager of the diabetes education department at FCHC. Dittes will provide information and suggestions for managing and controlling pre-diabetes. This free program is open to all. Saturday, Aug. 27

Cycle Circle: Women’s Ride Group, 7:30 a.m., Oak Openings Preserve, lodge parking lot. Start your day off on the path to good health with other cyclist for a morning bike ride around your beautiful Oak Openings Metropark. All cyclist levels welcome on this beginners level ride. Swanton Village Council will hold a special meeting to discuss the proposed Norfolk Southern Railway project. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 219 Chestnut St. The public is welcome.

Swanton Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. in the board office, 108 N. Main St. The public is welcome.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

In Search of Fall Color, 9:30 a.m., Oak Openings Preserve, Buehner Center parking lot. Brilliant fall color is on its way. Discover where and when it hits first in the Metroparks by taking a nice brisk walk through the park with an interpretive guide. Register at metroparkstoledo.com. Free.

Swanton Village Council will meet at the Swanton Municipal Building, 219 Chestnut St. at 7 p.m. Public Service and Public Safety Committees will meet prior to the regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m.

Weekly/Monthly Event

Swanton Garden Club will hold monthly meetings. They will meet the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Call Jan Heyman at 419-206-2047 or Elfrieda Jewell at 419-826-4129 prior to the meeting to find out the location.

Growing through Grief Bereavement Group will meet the fourth Tuesday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 N. Main St., Swanton. Conducted by licensed bereavement counselors, the sessions are free and open to anyone in the community who is interested in attending. Pre-registration is required. Alzheimer’s Support Group, last Tuesday of each month, 3 p.m., 214 S. Munson Road, Swanton. Family members who are or will be caregivers are invited to a monthly forum. Come discuss your changing role and how to find resources to assist you. Call Chris Cremean for reservations at (419) 825-1145.

The Fulton County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society meets the second Tuesday of the month except July and August at 7 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 Taylor St., Delta. Speakers, programs, research tips. Public welcome.

OPERS Fulton County Chapter 29 meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Wauseon Senior Center.

Helping Other Parents Experiencing Grief (HOPE) is a support group that meets the third Monday of every month, except December, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fulton County Health Center meeting room. HOPE offers support for parents who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of infants, young children and teenagers due to illness or accident. The Quilt Bear Cafe Club is a monthly club that features a monthly “cup” of quilting. They meet the third Saturday of every month at The Quilt Bear Studio, 13115 Angola Road, Swanton, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and enjoy sewing time with friends, a light lunch, door prizes and more.
