The unemployment rate was up in Fulton County during December, according to data released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The unemployment rate in the county was 3.9%, which was up from 2.8% in November. The rate in Fulton County was 3.6% in December 2021.

The data showed a labor force of 22,300 in the county with 900 unemployed. Estimates from November showed 600 unemployed.

In Lucas County, the unemployment rate increased to 4.2% in December. That was up from 3.6% in November. It was 4% in December 2021.

Among the state’s 88 counties, preliminary December 2022 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 2.1% in Mercer County to a high of 6.8% in Monroe County.

From November, unemployment rates increased in 83 counties and fell in five.

The comparable December unemployment rate for Ohio was 3.6%. Three counties had unemployment rates at or below 2.5% in December. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Mercer, were: Auglaize and Wyandot, 2.4%.

Six counties had unemployment rates at or above 6.0% in December. The counties with the highest rates, other than Monroe, were: Ottawa, 6.5%; Noble, 6.4%; Adams and Highland, 6.3%; and Meigs, 6.0%.

Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2% in December 2022, unchanged from 4.2% in November 2022. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 1,900 over the month, from a revised 5,506,700 in November to 5,508,600 in December 2022.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in December was 244,000, up from 243,000 in November. The number of unemployed has decreased by 12,000 in the past 12 months from 256,000. The December unemployment rate for Ohio decreased 0.3% from 4.5% in December 2021.

The U.S. unemployment rate for December 2022 was 3.5%, down from 3.6% in November 2022, and down from 3.9% in December 2021.
