One woman is dead and another was injured following a two-vehicle crash July 7 in York Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Toledo post, reported that a 2014 Toyota Prius driven by Carol S. Knapp, 72, of Liberty Center was traveling northbound on County Road 13 shortly after 10 a.m. when it ran a stop sign and struck the driver’s side of a 1999 Buick LeSabre driven westbound on County Road F by Helen M. Spiess, 89, of Delta. The impact sent both vehicles off the northwest corner of the intersection, where Knapp’s vehicle struck a traffic sign and utility pole.
Spiess was trapped in her vehicle, and had to be extricated by first responders. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and was transported to the Fulton County morgue by Wauseon EMS.
Knapp sustained injuries and was transported by Delta EMS to the Fulton County Health Center, where she was still being treated that afternoon.
Both drivers wore seat belts, and neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected.
Troopers were also assisted at the scene by the Wauseon police and fire departments, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and Toledo Edison.
The crash remains under investigation.
