At a light meeting last week, Swanton Village Council approved a healthcare plan for employees and acted on multiple personnel issues.

During the regular Council meeting the renewal of the employee benefit program was approved. They will renew the United Healthcare plan provided by Stapleton Insurance.

Handbook revisions were reviewed and will be voted on at the next Council meeting.

The Capital Improvement Program was also discussed during the Committee of the Whole meeting. It is slated to be finalized at the next meeting.

A new ladder truck for the fire department, water tower painting, and the long-planned membrane project at the water treatment plant, are among the items that could be included for next calendar year.

During the Public Safety Committee meeting, a vehicle exhaust removal system for the fire station was discussed. Councilman David Pilliod said bids came in for the project at $60,000-$90,000.

The exhaust system would be designed to vent 100% of exhaust gases and particulate safely to the outside of the fire station.

The village received a $61,000 grant from FEMA that will pay for most of the project.

In personnel items, Council approved the resignation of Olivia Pasternak from the position of administrative assistant and utility billing clerk. They also accepted the resignations of Larry Moore from the police department and Kyle Hashbarger from the fire and rescue division.

In her report, Village Administrator Shannon Shulters, told Council that she met with ODOT and they will continue to plow Airport Highway this winter. “It just makes more sense,” she said. “They have bigger blades for removing the snow.”
