A Toledo man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Swanton Township on Tuesday.
The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the fatal crash, which occurred on State Route 64 (Waterville Swanton Road) near Moncolva Road in Swanton Township. The crash occurred at approximately 2:28 p.m.
A 2004 Oldsmobile Alero was southbound on State Route 64, and driven by Chris Gunn, 63. of Toledo. Gunn drove left of center off the left side of the road, and struck a mailbox, according to the Highway Patrol. His vehicle then went into a group of trees striking a few before coming to rest.
Gunn was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for life threatening injuries. His safety belt was not worn at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not a factor. CPR was performed on Gunn by a State Trooper, Metropark Ranger, National Guardsman, and Paramedic prior to EMS arrival. He was later pronounced deceased at St. Lukes Hospital.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Swanton Police Department, Swanton Fire Department, Fulton County EMS, Lucas County EMS, Whitehouse Fire Department, 180th Ohio Air National Guard Fire, and Metroparks Toledo.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
